Your Next Opportunity

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing procurement category strategies for Lighting Fixtures, Lighting Control Systems, and Emergency Lighting Inverter Systems. This role ensures alignment with project specifications, cost objectives, quality standards, constructability requirements, and project schedules.

The position focuses on achieving best value while improving efficiency throughout the procurement lifecycle-from estimating and bid support through contract execution and project closeout. The Category Manager will leverage industry expertise to optimize supplier relationships, reduce risk, and drive continuous improvement across procurement processes.

As a subject matter expert in the lighting industry, this role serves as a trusted advisor to estimating, procurement, and project teams by providing technical guidance, market insight, and strategic support.

What You'll Do

Category Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Develop and implement category management strategies for Lighting Fixtures, Lighting Control Systems, and Emergency Lighting Inverter Systems to achieve financial value and improve Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

  • Lead cross-functional teams in evaluating category spend, supplier landscape, and market conditions to identify consolidation and strategic sourcing opportunities.

  • Monitor global supply markets including pricing trends, supplier capacity, emerging technologies, and industry developments.

  • Communicate relevant market insights and supply chain risks to internal stakeholders and adjust strategies accordingly.

  • Proactively challenge existing procurement, estimating, and cost tracking practices to improve operational performance and financial outcomes.

Strategic Sourcing & Contracting

  • Develop sourcing strategies, RFPs, and bid packages that align with company objectives and project requirements.

  • Lead negotiations with strategic suppliers to secure favorable commercial and technical terms.

  • Develop regional and national contracts that deliver optimal commercial value while minimizing supply chain risk.

  • Negotiate and review NDAs, contracts, and supplier agreements in collaboration with internal stakeholders and legal teams.

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers to drive long-term value and collaboration.

  • Implement supplier performance management programs including KPIs, scorecards, and regular business reviews.

  • Lead national business reviews with strategic suppliers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and performance expectations.

  • Identify performance gaps, conduct root cause analysis, and drive corrective action plans with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Project & Estimating Support

  • Support estimating and project teams with procurement strategies, pricing insight, and supplier engagement for lighting-related scopes.

  • Review project documentation, plans, specifications, and estimating takeoffs related to lighting systems to ensure scope accuracy prior to supplier solicitation.

  • Perform technical and commercial evaluation of supplier proposals to ensure best value and risk mitigation.

  • Identify specified manufacturers and determine the most effective procurement strategy to maximize competitiveness and probability of project award.

Process Improvement & Organizational Support

  • Assess current procurement processes and identify opportunities for improvement, standardization, or technology adoption.

  • Develop implementation plans for category strategies and coordinate execution with stakeholders across the organization.

  • Lead change management initiatives supporting procurement transformation and organizational growth.

  • Build strong internal and external networks to support knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation.

What You'll Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field.

  • Minimum 7 years of procurement experience within the electrical construction industry.

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant industry experience will also be considered.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or equivalent procurement certification preferred.

What You Bring To Us

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Management, Operations or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) Certification or Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM) Certification preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of the electrical construction industry, particularly lighting fixtures, lighting control systems, and emergency lighting inverter systems.

  • Demonstrated experience developing procurement strategies, sourcing plans, and negotiation strategies.

  • Experience performing market analysis including supplier landscape evaluation, pricing trends, and supply risk assessment.

  • Proven experience negotiating supplier contracts and commercial agreements.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively across procurement, estimating, and project operations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated experience developing project plans including scope, cost estimates, schedule milestones, and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, project plans, and specifications.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Bluebeam and Adobe tools.

  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and the ability to communicate complex ideas and processes clearly.

Travel

  • Up to 15%

Working Conditions

  • General work environment - sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning

  • Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.

Pay Range

$136,900.00-$179,700.00 Annual

The pay range for this role is what we expect to pay for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this job description. Candidate's pay can vary based on location, job-related experience, skills, and education.
